Good subject lines are one of the most important aspects of a successful email marketing campaign.

If your subject line doesn’t hook the reader, another email remains in an inbox unread, indefinitely. The subject line is the first impression your reader has of what to expect in your email. If it isn’t relevant to their needs or interests, what reason do they have to open your email?

Unbounce offers a few tips to writing subject lines to significantly increase your open rates, some of which include:

  1. Be specific. The more direct and relevant your subject lines are, the more your subscribers will be inspired to open them. And the more they know about what to expect, the more inclined they may be to open your email.
  2. Build momentum. By using subject lines that indicate there are more emails to come, your subscribers can’t help but be curious.
  3. Test different subject lines. Try different subject lines on different subscribers using A/B testing methods, and compare open rates. Repeat until you find a pattern that works.
