Hello Savoir Faire friends!
My name is Lilly. I am a senior at the University of New Hampshire at Manchester studying Advertising and Public Relations, and Savoir Faire’s second-ever intern.
In the Fall semester of my senior year at UNH-M Stephanie was a guest speaker in my Media Writing class. During this time I had my eyes open for an internship and this felt like the right opportunity to speak up. I assume this wasn’t the question Stephanie was anticipating someone would ask during the question portion of her presentation, yet there I was asking if I could be her intern, and just like that, the rest is history.
I’ve been fortunate to have spent the last 15 weeks interning at Savoir Faire Marketing Communications. My ambition for an internship was pretty typical: I wanted real world experience in a professional setting where I could apply what I learned in the previous three and a half years.
The first few weeks at SFMC I spent getting to know what they do and how they do it. I quickly found myself writing blog posts and compiling information to help the team with different projects.
Stephanie knew I had a dream to start a lifestyle blog and she put a major focus on helping me make this happen. Stephanie and I dedicated an hour each week to focusing conversation on my blog, although it ultimately ended up being an hour that she shared her advice and wisdom. She carried her advice into the editing of my work I completed for SFMC, too.
I am most thankful for the time Steph took to give me feedback on my writing because I wouldn’t have otherwise had this one-on-one opportunity to hear what I could be doing better, something I can’t always recognize myself.
Not only did Steph have great advice, so did the team. Also a lover of writing, Corey gave me oodles of advice about blogging. Lucy was always there to chat about life and what was on our minds. Janna filled me in on website design and maintenance to assure that my blog was everything I envisioned it to be. And Ben, Ben helped me with SEO to make sure my blog ranks in Google.
I can’t imagine spending my internship elsewhere. This semester at Savoir Faire will always hold a special place in my heart.
Like they say, make your internship matter!
