“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is” is the perfect adage to heed when evaluating your website bounce rates.

Online resources report that average bounce rates can run anywhere between 40% and 70%. Some sites, depending on their content, their strategy for attracting visitors and the user experience design, may report rates that are in the higher or lower ends of that range.

However, if you find that bounce rates are consistently below 10% or even 20%, it’s reason for concern over,  not celebration of, your marketing and SEO efforts.

Unusually low bounce rates often indicate that there is something wrong with your Google Analytics implementation. The likely culprit is the insertion of duplicate Google Analytics tracking code. In WordPress sites, this often happens when tracking code is added to the template files and then also inserted via a plugin.
