While you can spend time analyzing the results of your SEO efforts in Google Analytics or other reporting software, sometimes, you need a tool that will will analyze your site in a more specific manner and reveal new areas for improvement.
There are a number of free and paid tools that can help.
These tools allow you to enter the URL of a site and they will then display a report of common SEO issues; title tag length and structure, missing meta descriptions, keyword usage, h1 tags, robots.txt files, broken links and missing image alt tags are just a few.
Some free online checkers include:
SEO Site Check seositecheck.com
Woo Rank woorank.com
Site Auditor siteauditor.com
Hubspot’s Marketing Grader marketing.grader.com
Liperhey lipperhey.com
You can also install desktop programs such as Screaming Frog SEO Spider that allows you to crawl a website for links, images, CSS and scripts from a search engine indexing perspective. The app also lets you export key onsite SEO elements to Excel so you can more easily slice and filter the data
One of the most well-known SEO tools is MOZ (Formerly SEO Moz). MOZ offers free tools for SEO (Open Site Explorer and MozBar) but also offers what it calls an “all-in-one SEO toolset” for pro-users, which not only gives you the analysis tools, but additional research and training tools. Similar all-in-one toolsets are available from Raventools and Majestic. These are all great resources, but none replace the vast knowledge a true SEO strategist possesses from years of doing this type of work and utilizing these types of tools.
