Many businesses make the mistake of overlooking the value of a brand style guide.

To maintain a consistent brand image, it’s crucial that every representation of your brand – whether it be online, in print, or on radio or television – is consistent with your established brand identity and messaging. The best way to achieve this, is to create a brand style guide. Without one, you risk the possibility of inconsistency among your marketing and advertising efforts.

Hubspot defines a brand style guide as “a document containing the rules and guidelines for the composition, design, and general thematic look-and-feel of all of a brand’s collateral.”

A brand style guide is essentially your brand’s “bible.” In addition to defining essential design elements, like colors, images, logos, fonts, etc., it should also include explanations for how these elements should – and shouldn’t – be used in association with your brand.
