The good, the bad and the ugly of  mega menu navigation.

Mega Menus, drop down panels triggered by navigation often containing a large number of links sorted in multiple columns and sometimes with images, have become popular, particularly on retail/e-commerce sites with large numbers of product categories and links. These panels, if done improperly, can present a navigation nightmare for users and affect SEO rankings. If you intend to use a mega menu, make sure you offer alternative navigation for mobile devices, tablets, and other small-screen or hoverless devices. Find a balance allowing you to have the necessary number of links while maintaining good design to avoid paralyzing your users with too many options. Make sure the panel fits in the top area of the page. Scrolling while using a mega menu can be difficult. Avoid using links to every page and diluting link quality, creating a flattened link structure. While mega menus can work for some sites,  a small site or a site light on copy probably won’t benefit from a mega menu, and could suffer in the eyes of Google.
