Local search changes

Google My Business has announced a couple changes that businesses using service areas and business that haven’t opened yet could find beneficial.

Local service area

For service-area businesses, or those that visit or deliver to local customers, Google now offers separate fields to enter either or both a location and a service area. This allows businesses that do not serve customers at their physical location to leave their address blank, while businesses that serve customers at their location and within a service area can enter both. However, service areas are no longer set as a radius around a business. Instead, businesses will have to define their service area using regions, cities or zip codes.

Open dates

Allowing businesses to set an open date enables them to appear in Google Maps before they actually open, informing the searcher that the business is coming soon. This helps businesses build awareness and excitement and keep customers informed.
