Google has been pushing for HTTPS everywhere for some time and has even adjusted their browser, Google Chrome, to display a not-secure warning for sites that have not implemented an SSL certificate.
Unfortunately, that “not secure” message or warning has a huge impact on users. A recent UK survey found that 50% of website users have a bad reaction to seeing a “not secure” warning in the browser’s address bar. Additionally, Search Engine Land reports that not only does it affect a user’s opinion of the website, it affects the opinion of the brand as a whole.
